Waves plugin version of the Pultec EQP-1A, modeled from the originals in Jack Joseph Puig’s studio.
History of the hardware
The Pultec EQP-1A was introduced in the 1950s by Pulse Techniques, founded by Eugene Shenk and Oliver Summerlin. It uses passive LC (inductor-capacitor) circuitry to adjust frequencies, allowing boosts and cuts without introducing distortion or phase issues common in active designs. Because passive equalization reduces signal strength, a tube amplifier stage is included to restore the lost gain.
The Plugin
For a look at how the Pultec attenuation/boost trick works, see ideas below. Be amazed at this mystical piece of magic! Or not, I mean, it’s just the way the original capacitors and inductors worked.
Compare this to the UAD version, and the IK Multimedia version.
