IK Multimedia’s takes on the Neve 1073, Rupert Neve’s mix board preamp module that has become one of the most famous and iconic pieces of audio hardware.
I don’t have a whole lot to put here—you can read about the UAD version and the Waves Scheps 73 for more info, especially about the original Neve 1073.
All the plugins give different results. Using the default settings, the IK Multimedia plugin will give you slightly more bass, and a heavier sound. If you use all three I would guess it would be similar to using three different hardware Neve 1073s or clones. Which brings me to the first hint:
Hints:
- Use different plugins from different companies that emulate the same hardware. You get at least a little flavor of various differences in hardware models.
- Vary the line/mic gain between channels for differences in harmonics. (Pushing it higher will introduce distortion, of course.) This will also give you a more “analog” feel of using different pieces of hardware.
