The Empirical Labs Arousor, Empirical Labs’ plugin version of their own EL Distressor hardware. I wonder why they didn’t name this “Distressor,” it’s not like someone is going to confuse buying a plugin and buying hardware are they?
I have looked at three other emulations of the Distressor. Check them out and make your own decision. (I don’t have the hardware, so don’t ask me about that!) It’s interesting (to me at least) that the Empirical Labs Arousor has much more control and variability in the THD (see below), as well as clipping when you push the Saturation control to max.
Compare it to the IK Multimedia TR5 Comprexxo, the Kiive Xtressor, and the UAD Empirical Labs Distressor.
